TAKE AUTHORS SURVEY, BOOST NWU

What is the easiest way to support your union? Completing an Authors Coalition survey. Each response can generate the same income for the NWU as gaining one new member.

In 2015, your participation helped us accrue nearly $160,000 in non-title specific royalty payments. This amount is directly linked to the number of completed surveys. However, it also primarily comes from foreign agencies, and is heavily impacted by exchange rates, so we need your help even more this year.

Fortuitously, this is the first year you can respond using this online form. We need your responses by February 29, 2016.

Who should fill out the survey? All published writers in every genre, including self-published authors, as long as you have sold at least 1,000 copies since publication, not limited to one year.

Didn’t publish in 2015? It doesn’t matter. Any published work no matter how old qualifies. The one exception is works that are exclusively online.

If you filled out a survey before, you don’t need to do so again unless you have been published in a different format recently. Don’t remember what you checked off last time? Just complete the survey again. The NWU electronically archives submissions, so it’s easy for us to cross check new responses.

The payments received by the NWU through the Authors Coalition in no way affect your own royalties. (The Coalition does help individual writers by posting unpaid foreign fees. You can search their list by your name here.

If you prefer to mail your submission, you can download the form here and mail it to Jeanise Chaplin, National Writers Union, 256 West 38th Street, New York, NY 10018. We cannot accept scanned or faxed copies. Questions? Email Alex Faiz.
