The NWU Health and Safety Committee takes up issues and practices that threaten the health and safety of writers. A number of industry practices and government standards impact writers, most notably those that concern extended work at a computer terminal.
The NWU is also a member of the International Federation of Journalists and fully supports its End Impunity (a global campaign to end impunity for crimes against journalists) Campaign. NWU also represents the IFJ at the United Nations. Watch videos and read more about the NWU and the IFJ here.
The NWU has also worked with other labor organizations to advocate for standards that will protect writers.
The following are examples of worker protection stands taken by the union, as well as calls for members to get involved in health and safety issues.
