Deadline to File Claim Against L’Officiel is Dec. 7

Have you freelanced for L’Officiel? Were you, like dozens of other freelancers, not paid what you are owed? You may be eligible for double damages!

Last July, following advocacy by FSP-NWU and our coalition partners, the City of New York announced that they settled a lawsuit brought against L’Officiel USA, the American subsidiary of a French-owned global media company, for paying freelancers late or not at all.

Under the settlement, L’Officiel paid $275,000 in double damages to 41 freelancers, about a dozen of whom were represented by the National Writers Union. This win was fueled by NWU’s Freelance Isn’t Free campaign (which we’re now taking to the state of California)!

The settlement also offered any freelancers not under the settlement but owed money by L’Officiel six months to file a claim with the City’s Department of Consumer and Worker Protection.

The deadline for filing a claim is coming up on February 7. If you performed freelance work for L’Officiel or its affiliates between January 1, 2017 and July 11, 2023 AND were not paid what you were owed, click the link below for more information on filing a claim.

Solidarity and best wishes,
