Annual Boston Book Party Celebrated Virtually

The Boston Chapter celebrated members with books published in the last 12 months via a Zoom gathering on Sunday, January 31, giving members all around New England an opportunity to participate virtually.

We may not have been able to socialize in person, or enjoy the usually delicious food, but we were able to hear from everyone who wanted to read. And for the first time, we didn’t have to worry about weather.  Read about our members’ 2020 accomplishments here.

Award-winning author Allissa V. Richardson, our keynote speaker, shared her insights into a cutting edge phenomenon: how African Americans use mobile and social media to produce innovative forms of journalism, especially in times of crisis. Her talk was followed by a Q&A session.

Americans, Smartphones and the New Protest #Journalism (Oxford University Press, 2020), explores the lives of 15 mobile-journalist activists who have documented the Black Lives Matter movement using only their smartphones and Twitter. Check out her website here.
