We've been getting questions about what the Internet Archive is actually
doing with the millions of books it has been scanning.
Unfortunately, "Controlled Digital Lending" (CDL) and the new "National
Emergency Library" (NEL) are only the tip of the iceberg. The Internet
Archive distributes copies of each book it scans in *five* different ways.
The confusion is understandable, given that what the Internet Archive is
doing doesn't match what it says it does as CDL or the NEL.
