Notimex Strikers in Mexico City
The following resolution was passed unanimously at the NWU Executive Board meeting on January 30, 2021.
The National Writers Union is a labor organization dedicated to protect and enhance the labor rights of journalists, freelancers, and other media workers. As members of the International Federation of Journalists, we are involved and support the struggles of our colleagues in other countries of the world.
We are aware of the 343-day strike and struggle by SutNotimex, and we support their demands:
- reinstatements of workers illegally fired because of their participation in the union’s activities;
- full severance pay for workers who were laid-off as part of the restructuring of the company;
- respect to the legal process and to stop management interference and false accusations against union leaders
We call on the Mexican labor authorities to effectively mediate and resolve the conflict in favor of the workers.
