REPORTBACK: CHARLES COE’S WRITERS’ DAY CAMP
by Barbara Beckwith and Barbara Mende

Nine writers from different backgrounds and genres – essays, poetry, memoir and more – enjoyed a four-hour workshop on September 15 that came with a vegan lunch prepared by poet/writer/chef Coe himself. The workshop was a fundraiser for our Boston NWU chapter. We were hosted graciously at the Brookline Community Foundation, a beautiful and conveniently located historic building.

Charles gave us “warm-ups” – prompts on a range of topics that provided starts to pieces we could develop after the workshop was over. He encouraged us to draw from various types of experience. Several participants shared short writings, and Charles gave us guidelines for providing useful feedback that we used in discussing the pieces. We left charged up and inspired and ready to hit the keyboard.

Watch for an announcement of a second day camp this year.
