Thank you for visiting the National Writers Union’s (“NWU”) website (“Site”). Your privacy is important to us. We provide this notice describing our online information practices to keep you informed about how your information is collected and used and to better protect your privacy. This Privacy Policy applies only to information collected by NWU through nwu.org and freelancesolidarityproject.org.
If you have any questions, concerns, or complaints regarding this Privacy Policy or how we use your personal information please contact us via e-mail at nwu@nwu.org.
How We Collect Personal Information and How It Is Used
We collect personal information that you provide directly to us:
Contact information
If you sign up to receive our newsletter, emails, or text messages from us, we will collect your name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and any other information you consent to provide.
Payment information
We may require you to provide us with payment information (like your bank account or credit card information), such as when you become a member. Please note that your financial information is collected and stored by a third party payment processing company. Use and storage of that information is governed by the third party payment processor’s applicable privacy policy.
We do not require you to register or provide personal information (with the exception of the “members-only” area) to view our Site nor do we share or sell any of the information we collect to any ad server companies or other parties.
Information submitted to NWU through the Site is kept confidential and is never shared except as required by law. It may at times be used to provide you with further information about NWU. These communications may be sent by email, postal mail, or otherwise. NWU may collect and share non-identifying and aggregate information, but not personal information with other parties. Personal information is information about you that is personally identifiable like your name, address, email address, or phone number, and that is not otherwise publicly available.
If you are a member of NWU registering for the “members-only” area of the Site, you will be required to create a username and password. This information is used solely to verify your identity and to provide you with access to the “members-only” area of the Site.
We will not sell, rent, or otherwise share your personal data to third parties. However, we may share your information with:
- Service Providers: Third-party vendors (e.g., payment processors or email services) for business operations
- Legal Authorities: When required by law or to protect our rights
You may unsubscribe from messages through a link we include on messages we send you. You can also ask us to stop sending you messages at any time by contacting us at comms@nwu.org.
Retention of Your Data and Deletion
Your personal information will not be kept longer than is necessary for the specific purpose for which it was collected.
When we decide how long we will keep your information we consider the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the personal information, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure, why we need it, and any relevant legal requirements (such as legal retention and destruction periods).
The foregoing will, however, not prevent us from retaining any personal information if it is necessary to comply with our legal obligations, in order to file a legal claim or defend ourselves against a legal claim, or for evidential purposes.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Please come back and check this page periodically for the latest information on our privacy practices.
