Poetry is a Bridge: A Celebration of Poetry in Translation and in Many Languages

Saturday, September 21, 2–5 pm
Frugal Bookstore
57 Warren St. (Dudley Square), Roxbury

“Poetry is a Bridge” is a new space for bilingual poets, translators of poetry from one language to another, language-swapping rappers, code-switching wordsmiths, and anyone who likes to share and delight in what our languages can do when we bring two or more of them to the mic.

Our featured readers for this event will be Danielle Legros Georges, Boston’s Poet Laureate Emeritus, José Zepeda, President of the UMass Boston Slam Poetry Society, and George Abraham, Kundiman and Watering Hole fellow and recipient of the College Union Poetry Slam International’s Best Poet title.

Each reader will talk about what they do, then read selections from their poetry and/or translations of poetry from other languages into English. The featured readers will be followed by a 45-minute open mic, a space for members of the audience to read from their own multi-lingual poetry or translations of poetry into English from other languages.

If you’re interested in participating in the open mike part of this event, sign up beforehand at http://bit.ly/PoetryIsABridge.
