NWU 2015 Highlights

  • January 12-13: Talks in NYC with Zhejiang Provincial Writers Association, People’s Republic of China;
  • March 8-10: NWU delegates attend UAW New York State Lobby Conference in Albany, NY;
  • March 24-26: Our delegates participate in UAW Collective Bargaining Convention in Detroit, MI;
  • May 1-3: NWU president attends PFUJ Conference in Karachi,Pakistan as part of an International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) delegation;
  • May 9-15: Members from around the country judge Workers Unite Film Festival Screen Writing Contest;
  • May 25: NWU co-sponsors World Press Freedom Event at UN;
  • July 13: Revamped nwu.org goes live;
  • July 16-18: NWU attends Netroots Nation in Phoenix, AZ, networking and attracting new members;
  • July 17: NWU hosts a booth at Harlem Book Fair, and a panel on the Voice of Black Authors in Literature Today;
  • August 7-9: NWU Delegate Assembly convenes in NYC, with greetings from 10 IFJ unions from around the world;
  • August 10-12: NWU meets with both the Majority and Minority Counsel of the Intellectual Property Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee and the White House IP Enforcement Coordinator in Washington, DC, to advocate for copyright reform;
  • August: NWU members attend UAW Women’s and Civil and Human Rights Conferences in Black Lake, MI;
  • September 8-9: NWU meets with Authors Coalition of America (ACA);
  • October 11: Northern CA Chapter makes first appearance at San Francisco LitQuake Festival;
  • November 12-13: PFUJ and NWU hold meetings in NYC.
