Today the president of the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), Maja Sever, shared a message of solidarity with journalist unions in the United States in response to our government’s attacks on journalists and journalism.
“Our thoughts go out to the journalists’ unions, in particular to the three IFJ affiliates in the United States, the National Writers Union (NWU), the NewsGuild-CWA and the Authors Guild, who are multiplying actions and positions to defend journalists and journalism,” the statement reads. “The EFJ expresses its full support to them.”
The statement goes on to reference our union’s Sanctuary Union status, which solidifies our commitment to ensure the safety and security of our members regardless of immigration status and calls for solidarity with all workers.
“We in Europe feel full solidarity with this call for trade union unity,” concludes Maja Sever. “And we wholeheartedly welcome the commitment of our American colleagues to counter government censorship, the erosion of social protection and the government’s hunt for migrants. We want our colleagues to know that we stand with them.”
