Amy is a New York Times and Washington Post Bestselling author who started her career as a newspaper reporter. Her first book was Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years, the 1993 oral history adapted for Broadway and film. A versatile writer, Amy has written fiction as well as nonfiction, and books for adults as well as younger readers. She is available for manuscript consultations, assigned essays, book collaborations, and oral histories. Her expertise includes American history, women's history, elder wisdom, and forgotten or little-known stories. Awards include a Peabody Award, the inaugural Septima Clark Women in Literature Book Award from the National Council for the Social Studies, and two citations from the American Library Association.
