For more than thirty years, I've been involved primarily in literary journalism, with a focus on criticism, the culture of magazines, and travel. I've been a book columnist/reviewer for many publications, and I've published three books with the University of Missouri Press. My most recent book is "Lost Among the Baining: Adventure, Marriage, and Other Fieldwork," a memoir about a life-changing journey to New Guinea. My previous book was "Faint Praise: The Plight of Book Reviewing in America," a critique of traditional book reviewing. I live with my husband in Cambridge, MA, and Sanibel, FL.
