About 40 writers attended our totally enjoyable Book Party on Sunday, January 26.
Keynote speaker Jason Pramas, executive editor of DigBoston, kept us glued to our seats as he recounted true but terrifying tales about the threats posed to independent newspapers by media giants. Five members – Charles Coe, J. Kates, Judah LeBlang, William Orem, and Stephen Wilk – delighted us with readings from their 2019 books. (No, women weren’t excluded as they were from the Oscar directors’ slate; none of them were able to attend. The complete list of 2019 authors is here.)
The food and drink, including chicken wings from BonChon in Harvard Square as well as vegetarian nibbles and desserts selected by co-chair Charles Coe, were delicious. As a special treat, Zephyr Press provided free books to all the party-goers.
Thanks to our volunteers, headed by Shannon O’Connor, for getting everything set up and taken down expeditiously. Thanks to the guests who donated to the NWU through door donations and our 50-50 raffle. And thanks to everyone who made the party a success!
